I Kept Buying Cat Litter Mats. The Customer Reviews Pointed to a Different Problem.
What I learned from the recurring complaints about size, curled edges, cleanup, and multi-cat coverage.
Updated July 2026 | Cat Care Desk | 6 min read

I thought my problem was that my cat litter mat was too small. Then I read through the customer feedback on the product page and noticed a pattern: people were not only talking about texture. They were talking about mats that arrived folded, edges that curled, corners that moved, and cleanup that required lifting the entire piece.
That sounded familiar. I had been buying a flat object to solve a three-dimensional, daily-use problem. The litter box had a width. My cat had an exit path. The room had a boundary. The mat had none of those things.
So I looked at the Modular Cat Litter Mat System from the user’s point of view: what would I receive, how would I choose the footprint, and what do the real customer review screenshots actually say?
The review screenshots below come from Novora Flow’s live product-page review widget. User names and avatars have been masked for privacy. The screenshots are shown as customer evidence, not rewritten testimonials.
The first pattern: customers wanted the mat to sit flat
The most useful feedback was not a vague “looks nice.” One customer specifically described the modular tiles snapping together flat and avoiding curled corners. That matters because a folded soft mat can keep the memory of its shipping shape long after it arrives.

Feedback about the tiles sitting flat and avoiding curled corners.
From my perspective, this is the difference between a product that simply covers the floor and one that helps define the litter area. A connected base gives the setup a shape before the cat even uses it.

The second pattern: the room matters as much as the box
Another review described using the Medium size in a laundry room, where the litter box sits beside the washer. The important detail was not just litter capture. The customer said the area looked more intentional and caught most of the litter before it reached the hall.

Feedback about the Medium kit fitting a laundry-room litter area.

That is the measurement I would make first: not only the litter box, but also the route my cat takes immediately afterward. The modular options make that measurement easier to translate into a Small, Medium, or Large layout.
The third pattern: people wanted to clean one section, not wrestle with the whole mat
A third customer highlighted the removable honeycomb pieces. The benefit was very specific: lift one section, empty the litter, and wipe it instead of dragging a large mat outside.

Feedback about lifting one removable section for easier cleanup.

Lift one insert
Focus on the area that receives the most litter instead of moving the whole station.
Keep the base in place
The connected base and raised perimeter rails keep the litter zone defined while the insert is handled.
Refresh by module
The insert format creates a clearer path for replacement or accessory changes later.
The fourth pattern: larger boxes and multiple cats need more landing space
One review came from a two-cat household using an automatic litter box. The customer said the Large layout gave the cats more walking space and reduced the amount of litter making it past the station.

Feedback about choosing the Large layout for two cats and an automatic box.

This is why I would not choose a size based only on the litter box dimensions. The cat’s landing area, the direction of the exit, and the number of cats using the space all change the answer.

The fifth pattern: shipping shape can become a daily annoyance
Another customer described an old mat with one side permanently flipped up after shipping. The modular format changed that experience because the base arrived as connected pieces rather than one large folded sheet.

Feedback about avoiding the bent edge associated with a folded mat.
I would still check the final footprint before ordering, but the modular construction solves a very specific frustration: a mat should not start its life already fighting the floor.

What I would actually receive with each kit
Reviews are useful, but the box contents still need to be clear. Every base kit includes the following items in the selected quantity:
- Small: 6 square base tiles, 6 honeycomb litter-control inserts, raised rails, and connector pieces
- Medium: 8 square base tiles, 8 honeycomb litter-control inserts, raised rails, and connector pieces
- Large: 12 square base tiles, 12 honeycomb litter-control inserts, raised rails, and connector pieces
| Kit | Layout | Approx. size | Default pieces |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small | 2 x 3 | 24 x 36 in | 6 base tiles + 6 honeycomb inserts + rails + connectors |
| Medium | 2 x 4 | 24 x 48 in | 8 base tiles + 8 honeycomb inserts + rails + connectors |
| Large | 3 x 4 | 36 x 48 in | 12 base tiles + 12 honeycomb inserts + rails + connectors |
The litter box, litter scoop, cleaning brush, cleaning tools, and scratch pad modules are not included by default. Scratch pads are optional add-ons.
Where the optional scratch pad fits
The scratch pad module uses the same base opening as the litter-control insert. I would treat it as an add-on, not as part of the default litter-control purchase.

This is useful if I want a small activity zone near the litter area, but it also keeps the base kit honest: I am not paying for an accessory before deciding whether my cat will use it.
The questions I would ask before buying
Are the screenshots real customer feedback?
Yes. The screenshots are taken from the live Novora Flow product-page review widget. User names and avatars have been masked for privacy.
Does every base kit include the honeycomb inserts?
Yes. Each base kit includes a matching honeycomb litter-control insert for every base opening.
Are scratch pads included?
No. Scratch pad modules are optional accessories sold separately.
Which size should I choose?
Choose Small for a compact 2 x 3 area, Medium for a 2 x 4 home litter zone, and Large for a 3 x 4 footprint, bigger boxes, automatic boxes, or multi-cat homes.
The review pattern was simple
Customers were not only asking for a mat that catches litter. They were looking for something that sits flat, fits the room, can be cleaned in sections, and gives larger or multi-cat setups enough coverage. That is the reason I would compare a modular station before buying another loose rectangle.
